Don’t Treat Me LIke a Child

"Wheelchair Woman"

Don't treat me like a child--
I don't have use of my legs,
But I still have use of my brain.

Don't breeze in and take over my kitchen,
And you don't have to tell me how to tie my shoes.
I can't do everything, but let me do what I can for myself--
I know how to ask for help.

Because I don't know everything,
Don't assume I know nothing.

I may not have my life entirely together,
But neither do you.

Because I live sitting in a chair
and you can stand,
Why should you pat me on the head?
